Developing African Studies

With support from UCR's Center for Ideas and Society, this initiative begins to build a foundation for institutional development in African Studies at UCR. It seeks to identify and enhance networks between existing Africa-related resources on campus; hosts a seminar series that brings leading Africanist scholars to campus as well as individuals who can provide guidance in program building (e.g. NSF Program Officers, directors of African Studies centers elsewhere, etc.); provides a forum for Africanists at UCR to present their work and become acquainted with one another’s work, and seeks to build affiliations between UCR and a select group of 4–5 African universities.
